Elephant & Piggie “Waiting is not easy”
Projects by Madison Smith
Audiobook featuring my 7 year old sister, Marley!
I chose a book from the Elephant and Piggie series title “Waiting Is Not Easy”. It’s about two best friends, Piggie and Gerald, the Elephant, who do everything with each other! I first read a book from this series when I worked with a 4K class two summers ago. I remember after I had read it, I called my then 5-year-old sister to ask if she had read them. She told me how much she loved Gerald and Piggie and how she loved to read those books in her Kindergarten class. So while I was home one weekend I told my sister, now 7, that she was going to help me with a project I had to do for a college class. I gave her a few options of how we could do it and ultimately it was her choice to do an audiobook recording of us reading the book together. We practiced one time prior and the only instruction I gave her was to “read the book like it was a play”, to which she replied “so like with a lot of passion?” In the end, I could tell she tried very hard while reading even though it is a book that is well below her reading level. It turned out super cute and I know my sister loved helping me make it!

What Elephant and Piggie see when they look up!
In the end of “Waiting Is Not Easy”, Gerald finds out that what that the surprise he was waiting for from Piggie was in fact the stars in the night sky. So, for my infographic I used Piktochart to take a look into the night sky and some interesting things about it like what makes it unique and scary at the same time. Space is still something we don’t have all the answers too and the unknown of that is what makes it so compelling, especially for Gerald and Piggie.
