The Giving Tree
Project by Molly Bergum
Digital Storytelling
Author's Note:
I chose The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein as my Multimodal compositions piece because it was one of my favorite books as a child. I chose to do a stop motion film for this book, because I thought it would be a fun challenge, and also I thought it would help bring this book to life. The digital story is a retelling of the same story that Shel Silverstein wrote. I decided to do this because I wanted to give people an opportunity to see the same story brought to life. Throughout the video I chose to do many different color schemes to fit the mood of the book. I also thought one of the most important aspects of this video was that the tree came "alive" in this story. In Shel Silverstein's book, it just seems as though its a regular tree with a voice, but as I child, I always thought of it as an animated tree. With this in mind, I thought it would add a fun twist to the story.

Infographic
Author's Note:
I also decided to use The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein for my info graphic. While I could've think of a way to make the book's plot into an info graphic, I decided to take the idea of "a tree that gives" and make it my info graphic. While the info graphic doesn't necessarily match the book, the bigger idea that trees help people with many things was carried over into the info graphic. I decided to make cartoon characters in the info graphic to make the target a younger audience, as well as just make it fun! I wanted to use bright colors and nature themed colors in this to provide that feeling that you are outdoors.
